China Daily, the Beijing based and government run English newspaper in the Peoples Republic of China, ran a report that the trial is being held in Changning District, Shanghai, after a field test was conducted in October.

The news report further goes on to say that “[China] has obtained more than 200 patents and some of its core technologies have been adopted by international standards organizations, positioning China as one of the world’s front-runners in 4G technologies.

The PR China will however still introduce 3G technology and will distribute licenses to telecommunication companies in 2007, as it expects 4G to be commercially usable in around 2010.
