Some up to 60,000 “lucky” schoolchildren will be getting their very own PDA soon, as will 6,000 teachers. Included with the free PDA will also be free wireless Internet, to help students study at home by accessing coursework, for example. The whole project will rougly cost $50,000,000.
I really don’t understand the point in this: PDAs are very usefull gadgets for a certain group of people, but accessing schoolwork via a PDA, I just don’t see it working. Also: Who is going to stop the children playing games or chat wirelessly during class and homework time? I fully support laptop usage in schools, but this can be used for actually doing work, for example typing up essays and doing online research. And let’s not forget: $50,000,000 is a lot of money, a few new human teachers might be a better idea.
