This is the original series pistol type phaser gun; anyone who has seen the series would automatically recognize this from the show.

Of course this is not a weapon, but a remote control, it is yet another Star Trek the original series product that has come out as something else, it would be far too hard to speculate what the next would be, but for now it is the phaser that has the attention.

The phaser remote can be used in conjunction with DVD player, Video recorder & player, TV, Cable and Satellite system, there is an easy to operate auto search feature which will enable the addition of any devices to be quick and easy, while using the remote there are some fantastic real original series Star Trek sound effects which are provided by Paramount Pictures.

This is a piece of television history made into an everyday item, and what price is this piece of excellence? Just around $70 US.

Panasonic the Japanese electronics giant have come up with two new versions of a portable DVD player. They claim that the DVD player models LX87 S and the LS80 K have a battery that will last for up to twelve hours, which of course is absolutely fantastic and compared to the other portable DVD players that are on the market there is no comparison on viewing time.

The LS80 K is the first model in the range, this features a eight and a half inch screen, has JPEG and MP3 compatibility, plus with this machine there is the added bonus of having the ability to use a SD and SDHC card as the player does have card reader capabilities. The LX87 S is exactly the same as the previous model but with the ability to watch TV as it has a 1 SEG TV tuner combined into the package.

Both these DVD players will be available in initially in Japan around April time, however it cannot be long before we see these two cool units available in the rest of world, as once the news gets out there will be a large demand for the portable DVD players that are long playing and capable of tuning into TV channels.

At $1700 you really need to be a serious frequent driver to even consider getting one of these. The Alpine NVE-N872 is a large GPS satnav unit (best placed in your boot/trunk), which features Navteq maps for the US and Canada and has 9 million POI (points-of-interest) stored on it’s DVD.
The NVE-N872 is supplied with a remote that let’s you take control over the unit from the drivers position and access many useful features, such as pre-defined location buttons such as your home.

The NVE-N872 also features what Alpine calls “vehicle speed pulse input”, which gives feedback from the touchscreen as you would expect when pressing normal buttons. This is useful as it means you can use the screen without looking at it – and therefor avoid driving into that big truck ahead of you. But did I mention that no screen is included in the $1700? That’s going to set you back another few hundred dollars, probably close or even one thousand.

Other features include voice control, English, Spanish and French language support and zoomable freeway intersection maps, something I think can be very useful.

This is a great product for the iPod Video player. They are glasses that enable you to watch films, videos, internet and games, it is similar to watching a fifty inch sized screen TV from about eight and half feet, but without the cost. Although it has to be said the two cannot be compared at all, just the viewing quality. Yet these video glasses are portable and can be taken anywhere with you, like on the train, plane or car, providing you are not driving of course.

Basically this iTheater is like a pair a glasses that have the two screens where the lens would be, surrounded by speakers for the sound, the speakers giving a surround sound effect, they can also be used in conjunction with a cell phone, laptop and a personal DVD player, so they are not entirely limited to the iPod completely. The battery life can be as much as eight hours long, though this depends on the manner in what they are used.

But as with all electrical items of this manner there is a need to be careful as to where and when they are used. It could be easy for somebody using this on a train and not be away of what is going on around them, so there should be an air of caution in this type of situation.

These glasses will cost you around $250 with not too expensive if you consider exactly what you are buying, the glasses weigh in at about three and half ounces, connect to Gaming Systems, VCR’s and DVD Players, Video iPods and Cell phones. The iTheater can be used to view the following applications, Video Gaming, Portable Entertainment, Private Movie Watching and Remote Internet & Images.

Traditional DVD will have to replace HD DVD format in the near future with the grand arrival of Blu-ray disc. Though HD DVD drives can be produced and sold easily, yet in comparison with Blu-ray in terms of storage capacity for content, it lags much behind. Nielsen VideoScan conducted a market research recently in the USA, which revealed that sales of motion pictures on HD DVD’s have outshined sales of movies on Blu-ray discs.

Probably keeping the prospect of Blu-ray discs in mind, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. (Panasonic) has come up with a Panasonic Hollywood Blu-ray Testing Center (PHBTC). According to PHBTC, they will cross check whether Blu-ray disc are compatible with Blu-ray Disc hardware. Movies studious who are preparing to provide their contents on Blu-ray discs will have to meet the technical specifications before they are made.

Panasonic feels that this would be a great facility which can be availed by the film industry. With the release of Sony Playstation 3, the sale of Blue-ray discs got a tremendous boost. Along with Sony Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Panasonic is also on the committee formed for setting the format of Blue-ray discs.

As per the data provided by Sony, top 11 out of 15 films were released on Blu-ray discs last year. From format verification to playback testing and many more facilities will be offered by Panasonic Hollywood Blu-ray Testing Center. The new Centre will function from the same premises of the Hollywood Laboratory of Panasonic.

The kitchen is the nerve center of the home, it is where almost everything done and everyone always visits, we eat there and so on, as to what the center of the kitchen is, well it is in different places, we all have different ideas.

Whirlpool the electrical appliance manufacturer has come up with what they believe is the new center of the kitchen, the brain if you will. The item that Whirlpool have come up with is a fridge, or more likely “The Fridge” this is no ordinary fridge though; this one comes fully loaded with some pretty impressive hardware.

Digital photo album, where the families photos can be displayed in one at time or randomly, MP3 player so that there can be a selection of music to reflect the mood, a DVD & CD player just in case you want to watch a movie or maybe even a cookery lesson and of course the monitor to watch them on.

This is break through in the development of networking the home, it will not be long before there is a system in place everything that we use is automatically added to our shopping lists, so that when we want to go shopping at the online supermarket, all that would be needed is to press and couple a buttons and it is done.

In the meantime, we will have to make do with the “Central Park” the name that Whirlpool have decided to give this fantastic fridge, there is just one last thing, with all that hardware I almost forgot to say that the fridge is pretty good too, it has a great design and constructed very well indeed.

It appears to be a weird combination, Dr Who that likeable chap who travels around in the TARDIS almost always with a beautiful female assistant and saves the planet from evil alien forces and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Yet for many families who purchased the first episode from the second series entitled “New Earth” Dr Who DVD from Netflix service where the DVD’s are rented, sent and return via the postal service, had an even more frightening scene when halfway through all of a sudden the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film “The Beginning“, burst onto the screen and proceeded to cut off limbs and whatever else happens in those types of films.

It is believed that the problem had occurred during the manufacturing process where the two DVD’s where being made at the same time and somehow the process went wrong hence the resulting DVD’s with extra footage.

The fault is only on the DVD’s that were delivered to Netflix for distribution via their rental network, so there is no concern for any one who has bought the Dr Who DVD sets from other places like stores etc.

Carmakers and technology companies are catching on to this growing trend and offering more choices of cars gadgets such as car navigation systems, mobile MP3s, DVD systems and bluetooth wireless communication.

With GPS on your dashboard, drivers can give turn-by-turn voice prompts. Factory-installed in-dash navigation systems feature monitors that ranges from 6.5 – 7 inches. For the commitment-wary, plug-and-play navigation systems that can mount onto the windshield or dash are available. They often come equipped with built-in speakers and antennas.

This car navigation system comes in two models, the plug-and-play and the in-dash. The plug-and-play type are cost-effective, usually portable, and some systems offer map updates via internet. On the other hand, the in-dash model is more accurate in determining speed/mileage, better-looking, and includes DVD playback.

Because many music lovers also drive, there’s a lot of interest in the plug-in and drive off. This has not escaped automakers, who are quickly expanding MP3-compatibility options, allowing them to play through the car’s radio and syncing the stereo’s audio controls to the MP3 player. They even provide a place for the player to rest — often inside the glove box. Several devices will attach to your MP3 player and transmit a radio signal to the car’s radio. Some of these options also charge the MP3 player. Another common option connects the MP3 player to a tape-deck adapter. Anyone who had a portable CD player and a tape deck back in the day should find the setup familiar.

As stated in Cars.com, factory-installed DVD systems first gained a foothold in the minivan segment — a natural connection, since they often carry the most kids. Since then, DVD options have expanded to both the front and rear of cars. They can be factory-installed to double as a navigation system or dealer-installed to feature customized options, such as satellite TV. A DVD system with multi-zone capability allows more inputs and outputs so that other devices, such as video game players, can also be used and multiple sound sources can play simultaneously.

Bluetooth allows drivers to make and receive phone calls via their cell phones but through in-car systems. Steering-wheel-mounted controls in some cars, allow drivers to more safely answer calls while driving. bluetooth simply changes the device on which your calls are received; the phone number is the same, and charges appear normally on your cell phone bill. No hard-wired connections or docking stations are necessary, and drivers can operate their cell phones either through the car’s controls or via hands-free voice activation. Some systems even automatically mute your car’s audio when a call is answered. Imagine how safe it is driving around the city or bringing your family to long distance trips.
