Coding Horror has a good article on the cost of running a computer 24/7, estimating that his server costs rougly $200 a year and his media center pc another $80. That is a lot of money, and as gadget lovers we have many other gadgets lying around either charging or on standby.
Some tipps give are:
- Configure HDD to sleep when inactive
- Upgrade your power supply to a more efficient one
- Disconnect any unused peripherals
Not only will you save money, but also the planet
