A brand name in the arena of rollable displays, Polymer Vision which is a spin out of Royal Philips Electronics in association with Telecom Italia have announced the making of the ‘world’s first rollable display enabled mobile device’. While Telecom Italia will market the rollable displays in Italy, Polymer Vision will be involved in its marketing in the rest of the globe.

Although its manufacturers have not come out with any fixed date for its release and neither has given any hint about its price tag, yet they have issued a press release stating about its features. Termed as ‘Cellular Book’, it is much smaller in size than a typical mobile phone. Its 16 grey levels and other technological specifications provide the user the comfort and paper like experience while reading.

This rollable Cellular Book can be used for accessing emails, RSS feeds and ebooks. The specialty about this device will be its memory, which will start from 4 GB initially. This means its user can read and store entire newspaper in it or even books. It is coupled with both mobile functionalities as well as ‘mini-USB slot for PC and wired/ broadband data connection’. So now no more problem for those who want to download and play music, audio podcasts and audio books.

As regards power consumption, this Cellular Device is unique in the sense that on an average a user can use it for ten days of usage time. This unique device will be exhibited in the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, the next week.
