The Swiss chip manufacturer u-blox is going to present a GPS chip with very fast Time To First Fix (TTFF), claiming to be under one second! The popular SirF StarIII chip needs roughly 35 seconds.
As well as being very fast and only consuming 50mW of power, which will make it suitable for most mobile devices, the new u-blox chip will also have a sensitivity of 160dBm, meaning your device will be able to get a signal indoors and even underground. It also supports mixed signal reception, supporting GPS, WAAS, EGNOS and MSAS. The European GPS alternative, Galileo, will also be supported as soon as a signal is available.
