Atheros, mainly know as one of the largest WiFi chip producers, is now also entering the Bluetooth chip market, the Washington Post reports.
This makes sense as many products, such as mobile phones, now include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and by producing both chips and it’s large proportion of the Wi-Fi chip market, Atheros hopes to be able to get mobile phone producers to buy both chips centrally from one chip manufacturer: Atheros. Atheros exisiting main competitors on the Bluetooth chip market are especially CSR, Broadcom and Texas Instruments.
Atheros expects it’s first BT chips to be available this quarter already.
