The prototype of a new Darter 76 ultraportable Notebook with Ubuntu Linux, the operating system I am using to research and write this right now, was spotted by a visitor at a conference.
The model pictured left does not only come Windows-less and instead powered by a very reliable and easy-to-use operating system and is ultramobile, but also quite a beast inside: powered by 2GhZ Core 2 Duo T7200 using 667FSB and 4MB cache, the Intel 945GM chipset and 1.5GB of RAM. A 60B HDD should provide enough space for all your important files and anything else you might need. Wireless connectivity is supported with Bluetooth and 802.11a/b/g WiFi.
With a maximum thickness of 3.5″ and a “13″ish display” and probably weighs quite little it can truely call itself ultramobile notebook, and a nice designed one as well.
One advantage of buying a laptop with Linux is that you save money on Microsoft license fees, which means that the base model of the Darter 76 will be available for less than $1000.
