I Like Computers. More Than Spouse.

Only a few years ago, people were saying, “Machines can’t control us.” “That’s too sci-fi.” “You’ve read iRobot too much.” Well, but in fact, it seems as if this may be true in near future. Recently, an earthquake off the shores of Taiwan literally cut the connection between both sides of the Pacific Ocean. Millions of complaints were filed due to the Internet being immensely slow. This shows our amazing dependence on technology, contradicting what we said a few years ago.
An interesting research by Kelton Research Inc. also seems to be proving this idea. Today must simply be not the best day for the Americans. According to Kelton Research Inc’s research, 65% of Americans stated that they spend far more time with their home computer than with their spouse or a companion. One must probably be thinking, chatting, online games, downloading movies, etc. All fun. But Kelton did a follow up research and found results that were rather surprising.
Those who actually chose the computers over their companion did not seem to enjoy the computer world. Infact, 84% said that they were more dependent on their home computer now, rather than three years ago. This shows not only an increase in the dependence on technology, but also shows an increase in dissatisfaction, as the surveyed people also estimated that they wasted 12 hours per month due to home computer problems. They stated that usually, they felt anger and sobriety when there was a problem.
It’s interesting to see how the world is becoming immensely dependent on computers. It seems as if a world dominated by technology isn’t too far away… iRobot could never feel any more real than now.
